Painterly
A collection of work I’ve entitled the ‘Painterly Collection’ is created from eucalyptus sourced from gardens close to my village in France. Each piece is chainsawed and turned green or freshly cut on a lathe using hand held gouges; each is turned to approximately 1 mm thickness: as fine as paper. This collection is Inspired by painterly styles in art distilled in terms of loosely applied paint and visible brushwork designed to emphasise the life of the wood. Also inspired by Japanese aesthetics and defined by a sense of fragility and lightness. You can find work from this series on my website; in Maud & Mabel, London; Morgans, Falmouth; and Bircham Gallery, Holt. (The piece in the image is available from Morgans, Falmouth).
